Five reasons why it’s dangerous to straighten your teeth other than Invisalign. To Invisalign or not to Invisalign? That is the question.

Hi, Dr Warren Antonoff here. I’m a smile designer and also the co-founder of Dental House Group. This has been a hot topic in 2019. I’ve had many clients who’ve asked me, “I’ve seen this clear Aligner system that straightens my teeth for $2,000. What do you think?

After seeing many horror stories, I feel compelled to make a video and share with our clients the top five reasons why straightening your teeth with an aligner system other than Invisalign is potentially dangerous.

5 Reasons Why It’s Dangerous to Straighten Your Teeth Other than Invisalign
Number One
Invisalign is the pioneer of clear aligner systems. It’s been around since 1999, and there’s over 20 years worth of data and artificial intelligence. It is still the gold standard of clear aligner system. Maybe in 10 years time, things will be different and there’ll be other systems that have a track record of great performance.
Number Two
If you don’t need to physically go to a clinic to get to your aligners fitted, probably think twice of doing it. You have to ask yourself, who’s your dentist, who’s actually responsible if something goes wrong? Moving teeth is not as simple as putting a few pieces of plastic in your mouth and move them to the right position. There’s actually a lot of science behind it. If you move them too fast or if you move in the wrong direction, or there’s no room to move and things get stuck, you can be in a lot of trouble. And sometimes your teeth might even die.
Number Three
Don’t rely on just computerized before and afters simulations along. These simulations may look good, but it is only a guide to where we want to go. It’s NOT REALITY. Invisalign also has computerized before and after simulations, and as a dentist, I actually have to manipulate the treatment on average five to 10 times until I’m happy with the simulation. A lot of times, in order to achieve straight teeth, the simulation will actually look, I guess, weird, or the simulation actually have to have a lot of intricate, complex movements that may not reflect the teeth being straight. These are the REAL simulations… that us dentist will never show you.
Number Four
If your teeth don’t track properly, the teeth and your bite can actually worsen. Teeth might get stuck. If your bite gets worse, then it will take longer and it’ll be more expensive to treat it properly.
Number Five
Invisalign actually charges dentists on average 2,500 to $3,700 per case. That’s right. The fees that Invisalign charges a dentist is actually more than some of the total fees that you get charged with another system.
Think about it. If it costs that much to the dentist to do your treatment, is it too good to be a reality? Is it too good to be true?
