5 Things to Consider When Choosing a Cosmetic Dentist
Are you looking at upgrading your smile? Today we’re going to talk about cosmetic dentistry. What are some of the aspects you should consider when you choose a cosmetic dentist?
Hi, Dr Warren Antonoff here. I’m a smile designer and also the co-founder of Dental House Group. Investment in Dental treatments can be substantial, and cosmetic dentistry is dentistry at its finest form. You need to appreciate both the biology of the tooth, yet make them beautiful and in harmony with the face. That is more than just dentistry. It’s also aesthetic mastery.
During our smile consultation yesterday with our new patient Michelle from Gisborne, she told me she is shopping around for her smile makeover. Initially, she thought cost is the only factor she was doing to base her decision on. But after explaining some other factors she should consider, she has decided to invest her smile makeover with us.
So I thought what I shared with her would also be useful for you if you are considering upgrading your smile… and here are the top five things you should ask before choosing a cosmetic dentist.
What is their expertise? Some cosmetic dentists are really good at doing dental veneers. Others, they’re specially trained in doing dental implants. Some may prefer Invisalign. And due to their training, they may be more biased to one treatment compared to the other. So do your homework and actually think, well, is this actually what I need or are there better options?
Ask them to showcase their previous work to you. As cosmetic dentists, they would have transformed a lot of smiles in the past. So as a client you should ask, have you done a case like mine or similar to mine? Would you mind sharing with me your past results?
The fact of the matter is the beauty is in the eye of the individual. And what a dentist consider as beautiful may or may not be what you want. Each cosmetic dentist and their lab technician team will have their own style. So have a look at their previous work to have an idea whether that is actually the look that you’re after.
What camera do they use? You cannot fix what you cannot see. As a cosmetic dentist it is really important that they take a lot of images, not just for diagnosis but also before and after. In this way, you can be sure that your final result is as perfect as it can be.
What technologies do they have that complement their work? These days there are a lot of advanced technologies that could fast track or improve your outcome. And when it comes to cosmetic dentistry, there’s things such as digital smile design, 3D scanners, 3D printers, 3D x-rays. They can all affect the quality of your job. So ask them, what technologies do they have that would be beneficial for your treatment?
Do they offer payment plans? Because the cost of cosmetic dentistry can be significant, having payment plans will allow you the flexibility to have smile teeth upgraded without having to affect your daily living.
