Top 3 Problems Dental Veneers Fix
Hi! My name is Dr Fong. I’m the principal dentist of Dental House Group.
For those who don’t know, dental veneers are made from either a tooth coloured filling called composite, or a stronger and more aesthetic material called porcelain. Dental veneers are bonded to the front surface of the teeth as part of a smile makeover. There are many ways dental veneers can assist in improving your smile such as masking the colour, changing the shape and alignment of your teeth.
One of the most common requests from patients is to improve the colour of their teeth. If your teeth are discoloured, and you don’t have the patience to commit to a lifetime of teeth whitening, or teeth whitening hasn’t really been successful in whitening your teeth to the level that you want – dental veneers could solve your problem. Most patients have porcelain veneers as they do not change colour, are much stronger and more aesthetic. On the other hand, composite veneers can stain, fade and chip over time, and as such, they do not last as long when compared to porcelain veneers.
Dental veneers can also be a solution to slightly crowded teeth. If you don’t want to go through braces, Invisalign or any orthodontic treatment, and you have limited time to achieve the result you wish, dental veneers may be your answer. Teeth can be recontoured to have veneers placed such that they camouflage the crookedness of your teeth. The one thing you have to be careful of is if your teeth are moderately or severely crooked, too much tooth structure has to be sacrificed in order to place the veneers, and therefore not a good solution. So do your due diligence because dental veneers are not a replacement for teeth straightening.
I hope this gives you a better understanding of the type of problems dental veneers can solve. If you are considering upgrading your smile with either composite or porcelain veneers, we would love to help. Here at Dental House Group, we have done thousands of dental veneers over the years, so you will be in experienced hands.
