Invisalign at Sunbury
Many patients who wish to straighten their smiles would like an alternative to the traditional bracket-and-wire orthodontics. Adults, especially, appreciate the discreet treatment that Invisalign clear braces provide.
Invisalign works best for older teen and adult patients who wish to improve the appearance and function of their teeth.
How Invisalign Works
We will begin with an oral evaluation to determine if Invisalign is recommended. Invisalign treats most orthodontic conditions including crooked or protruding teeth, overbite, underbite, gaps between teeth or overlapping teeth. For complex orthodontic conditions, we may recommend treatment with traditional orthodontics.
We will begin by taking moulds along with digital dental x-rays to effectively plan treatment. We will send comprehensive information to the Invisalign lab, where they will create customised clear aligner trays. Each set of trays will gradually move your teeth into ideal alignment.
We will go over how to use Invisalign clear braces effectively and schedule follow-up appointments to monitor progress.
Guidelines for Invisalign Use
- Each set of aligner trays is designed to guide teeth into correct and aesthetic alignment.
- Wear each set of aligner trays for about two weeks before changing them out for the next set.
- Compliance is important. Wearing aligner trays for at least 20 to 22 hours per day will assist with timely treatment.
- Wash the clear aligner trays daily with lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Do not use hot water. It may distort Invisalign trays.
- Following instructions precisely will ensure that teeth move consistently.
Benefits of Invisalign
Invisalign clear aligners are made of a smooth, BPA-free plastic that most patients find more comfortable than traditional braces because they lack the sharp brackets that can irritate tissue.
Invisalign aligners are removable when eating and drinking hot liquids or performing daily hygiene. Maintaining good oral health is easier as a result.
There is an unrestricted diet when using Invisalign – since the trays are removable, there’s no need to avoid sticky or crunchy foods.
Patients will not have to endure sometimes painful adjustment appointments common with traditional orthodontics.
Treatment will be less noticeable. Because the braces are completely clear, they will not impact smile aesthetics like brackets and wires.
Retainer Use after Invisalign
Wearing a retainer will keep teeth in place and prevent orthodontic relapse. Retainer use is an essential part of orthodontic treatment. We offer Invisalign retainers or we can create a traditional orthodontic retainer, depending on personal preferences. Dr Yong offers a number of options to choose from and will discuss those with you.
