CEREC: Same Day Crown
CEREC: Same Day Crown at Sunbury, Gisborne & Diggers Rest
Having a chipped or cracked tooth doesn’t always mean you have to replace it. Our professionally trained dentists here at Sunbury Dental House prefer to save your tooth, when possible. Instead of removing the tooth, crowns or other types of dental fittings are used to preserve and save it. The perks are that your tooth is restored to feel and look like a natural tooth so you can smile or chew with confidence.
Normally, getting a dental crown, or any type of dental fitting to restore a tooth requires at least two visits. During the first visit your tooth is prepared and fitted for the crown and you may be set up with a temporary crown. You will need at least one more visit to remove the temporary and fit your permanent crown. The process can be inconvenient for some, but with CEREC technology, the entire process can be done in just one visit.
What is CEREC Technology?
CEREC is short for Chairside Economical Restoration and Esthetic Ceramics. While this sounds like a mouthful, an easier way to understand is the term, CEramic REConstruction. It is a technology that uses a computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing to create crowns, dental inlays or onlays, and veneers in just one visit. Impressions of the mouth can be taken and uploaded into a computer for fast and precise fitting so you can be on your way.
With CEREC, modern dental materials are used that can be moulded to create your tooth restoration right in the office. Once we have uploaded your information into the computer, the crown or other dental fitting will be created from a single block of ceramic or resin. CEREC technology is precise, thanks to computer-guided imaging, so your new tooth looks natural and feels comfortable.

What to Expect
At Dental House, our gentle dental professionals’ primary goal is your comfort and satisfaction. And knowing what to expect before your visit can help you feel at ease because there will be no surprises. The following are the steps you can expect when coming in for a CEREC crown.
Benefits of a Same-Day CEREC Crown
No Temporary Crowns
This can sometimes lead to problems if the patient eats certain foods causing the crown to adjust or, in some cases, become loose. If this happens, an extra dental visit may be required to refit the crown properly. But CEREC same-day crown service removes the need for any temporary fitting as you leave with your permanent crown in just one visit.
Less Time Off
This can be inconvenient for those with a busy schedule and taking multiple days off work or school. But with CEREC, you only need one visit, as the technology allows us to get a full 3D image of your mouth and then create the crown while you wait. This is more convenient for many people as it requires less time off from work or other daily responsibilities.
Accurate Fittings
More Comfort
Excellent Success Rate
And having your teeth checked every six months not only helps your crown last longer, but also creates a higher chance that our dental professionals will catch any problems before they arise, leading to your comfort and saving you money.
Who is a Candidate for CEREC?
As with any dental procedure, not all types of crowns and dental fittings are suitable for everyone. For example, if you have a crack in your tooth below the gumline, a traditional crown may be a better option for you. But as each situation depends on the individual, our gentle and caring professionals can do an evaluation and go over the best options with you.
