How Does Airflow Make My Dental Clean Comfortable?
How Does Airflow Make My Dental Clean Comfortable?
Hi, my name is Krista, One of the hygienists here at Dental house. We had a new patient Sandra from Melton, who came to us for a check-up and cleaning. She hasn’t been to a dentist for over 15 years, because she had a very bad experience at the dentist. One thing she shared with me was how sensitive her gums are, and she was very concerned about whether the cleaning would be painful. I shared with her that we use Airflow for our dental cleaning, and how it makes the whole process a lot more comfortable for the patients.
After her session, she had the biggest smile on her face, and said: “You are right Krista, that was a lot more comfortable than I thought! If I knew it was going to be this good, I would have booked my appointment a lot sooner!”
This got me thinking… About one-third of the Australian population doesn’t go to the dentist regularly due to dental fear and dental anxiety. And when they do need to go, it is often for a lot more serious conditions. Often, they could have been avoided if they had their regular check-up and professional clean. Technology such as Airflow would help them with their comfort and experience, yet, not many people know about this incredible machine.
The Guided Biofilm Therapy is an innovative way to remove plaque from the teeth. It greatly reduces the need to use traditional ultrasonic or manual scalers during teeth cleaning treatments.
At the beginning of your appointment, we will perform a gum map which is a detailed way to get an idea of your current gum health.
Once the gum map is completed, we will begin your personalised treatment. We start with applying a tri plaque identification gel, which not only helps us see where we need to clean, but also gives you a visual overview of the areas you are brushing well, and maybe the areas you aren’t. This allows us to also personalise the oral hygiene instruction required to keep your gums in perfect health.
After we have gone over oral hygiene instructions, we will begin your clean with the airflow machine. Airflow is very similar to a pressure washer that helps remove all the soft plaque or also known as biofilm. This eliminates the need for a traditional prophylaxis method with a handpiece, rubber cup or brush and gritty paste. This method is far more effective at removing surface stains, caused by coffee, red wine and tobacco. This is also much more superior method for our sensitive patients, as the water is warmed to 40 degrees Celsius.
Unfortunately, the airflow does not disregard the need for use of manual or power
instruments such as a hand or ultrasonic scalers to remove the hard calculus deposits from your teeth.
I hope this gives you all a better idea of what your hygiene appointment here at Dental House entails, and how our use of Airflow gives you a much more gentle and comfortable experience.
If you like our approach for the professional dental clean, give us a call on 1800GENTLE, DM us in social media, or complete the form on our website, and we will help you organise your consultation. Bye for now.
